"Fisher and Malone"

Evan Fisher and Jim Malone joined The Diamonds in 1958 and 1961 respectively. The lineup of Jim Malone (lead/baritone), Evan Fisher (tenor), Mike Douglas (baritone) and John Felten (bass) remained steady for the next four years, with the group travelling and working the clubs. The Mercury contract expired in 1962 - and aside from the release of an album and a single on Nat Goodman's Three Speed Records, there were no record deals or chart hits. Indeed, the early nineteen sixties proved to be tough for many groups and solo artists who had been big during the first wave of rock and roll (1955-1960). Contrary to the popular belief (that has been exacerbated by false statements and incorrect reporting), The Diamonds did not dissolve in the early sixties - in fact their stage show, which had always been popular, was still very much in demand by the folk who had grown up with their music.

In 1965, Evan and Jim decidied to leave The Diamonds and form the duo "Fisher and Malone". The boys went on to have a successful stage act of their own that lasted until 1970. Luckily, there were a few concerts recorded in their entirety, and the best of these has been preserved on the FISHER AND MALONE CD (not commercially available).

In 1970, Jim decided to return home to his native Canada, where he settled with his wife and went into the home improvement business. With little or no further involvement in the music industry, Jim lived in Toronto, was divorced some years later, remarried in the 1990s and sadly, lost his life to cancer in 2005.

Withe the breakup of the Fisher/Malone duo, Evan also quit performing. He settled in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he became a manager in the retail clothing industry. Many years later however, destiny stepped in and Evan found himself once again involved in showbiz. His brother Bob was the owner of a famous club in Pasadena California - "The Icehouse", which Evan wound up managing for several years. Evan currently resides in Arizona where he lives happily with his wife.

Evan recalls that during a live performance by The Diamonds in the early sixties, he was onstage after having forgotten to do up his fly. Someone in the audience sent a note backstage to inform him of his "situation". Apparently it was difficult to stay serious while Evan was singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" with his zipper undone!
